Is Wet and Forget safe to use around my pets?

goldenretriever

We've gotten numerous inquiries from some of you who are ready to apply Wet & Forget but want to know if it's at all harmful to your pets. Here's your answer!

You only need to keep pets off the surface during the time it takes Wet & Forget to dry, which is between 4 and 5 hours. Once the drying time has elapsed, both people and pets are free to walk on the surface that was sprayed with Wet & Forget. It is also safe for people and pets to be on the treated surface after subsequent rainfalls.

Hi – If I use W&F on a composite deck, will our dog be harmed if he drinks the water on the deck after it has been applied (and after the dry time) ?
Posted @ Thursday, January 26, 2012 11:26 AM by Rick
Hi Rick,
Thanks for contacting us with your question. We recommend keeping people, and animals off of the deck while you are applying the Wet & Forget and while it dries. Drying time for Wet & Forget is about 4 to 5 hours. If you have water containers on the deck that your pet drinks from, we would recommend removing these containers while you are applying Wet & Forget and during the drying time. Once the Wet & Forget has dried, people and pets can be on the surface, even if the surfaces become wet again from future rainfall. If you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know.

Hi! I have two dogs and live in a condo with a brick patio. My dogs use the planting areas to do their "stuff" and must walk across the patio to reach this area. The only time they wouldn't be using this area is after bedtime!! Help! When would you suggest I use this product???

Hi Pam,

During application while the surface is still wet, you want to keep your dogs off and away from your brick patio. After about 4 or 5 hours, or until the surface is dry, your dogs are fine to walk on the surface. In the morning or at night, the time of day doesn't effect Wet & Forget. Thanks for commenting.

I have a small dog who is very allergic. Her dog door goes out onto my wooden deck into the yard which also has a concrete walk. Assuming that I use this product at night, will it cause iritation later when these surfaces become wet ? What if she goes out in the rain and then licks her paws?
Thanks.

Hi Penny,

Wet & Forget is safe to use on your concrete even when your dog frequently walks on the surface. Wet & Forget is safe around pets, go a head and spray at night and just be sure the surface has completely dried before you let your dog out. When the rain hits the surface and it becomes wet again, it's fine to be on. Thanks for asking.

I have 2 koi ponds in and around a paver patio that needs to be cleaned. I understand not to spray the pond, but after Wet and Forget dries, would there be any problems with rain run off entering the pond water and possibly harming the fish in the ponds?
Posted @ Tuesday, July 30, 2013 1:56 PM by Mike
Hi Mike,

You want to make sure you're at least 100 feet away from all lakes, ponds, rivers, and streams when applying Wet & Forget as fish have been known to be very sensitive to Wet & Forget. I would not recommend applying to your brick paver patio with the pond so close by. Thanks for commenting.

I have a concrete covered kennel that houses 4 Labrador retrievers which received daily wash downs. Because of this it has formed algae in places. Removing the dogs to allow for dry time is not a problem. Would your product control the algae and is it safe even with the daily wash down and how often would I have reapply to control the problem?
Posted @ Wednesday, August 21, 2013 11:23 AM by Byron Bass
Hi Byron,

Wet & Forget will clean up the algae and keep it clean for at least a year, in most cases usually longer. Keep the dogs off the surface till your sure it's completely dry and that's it. When the surface gets wet again from washing the dogs, there is nothing to worry about. Most of our customers will apply once a year or at the next first sign of growth. Let me know if you have any other questions.

If I spray my patio bricks and wicker furniture and allow it to dry [no rain expected] do need to hose of the sprayed area at some point?
Posted @ Tuesday, September 17, 2013 2:58 PM by Beth
Hi Beth,

For your bricks, you can leave to the weather and when the rain hits the surface the product will be reactivated to gently breakup the growth and remove it. If you are not receiving any rain you can give the application at least a week to start breaking down the growth and then every so often just spray the surface down with water from the hose on a jet setting.

For outdoor furniture, because this is a surface that people sit on, you would want to spray the surface down with water the next day before someone sits just as a precaution. Let us know if you have any other questions.

I have a deck and steps made of cedar and wood composite. It is shady and is covered with lichen. If I use Wet and Forget, is it safe for my puppy to chew on the surfaces? She likes to eat the lichen off the wood.
Posted @ Sunday, October 06, 2013 8:51 AM by Gloria Morris
Hi Gloria,

When applying Wet & Forget to your deck, keep people and pets off the wet surface. Once the product has dried, it's fine to be on the surface. We wouldn't recommend ingesting lichen.

I have a roof that needs treating.
The rainwater/water from the roof feeds a large fishpond.
How long do the downpipes need to be diverted for?
Any other precautions?

I have two yorkies and what if they lick the wood on the deck after wet and forget dries, can they get sick?
Posted @ Monday, May 26, 2014 4:42 PM by Barbara
Hi Ian,

We do not recommend applying Wet & Forget within 100 feet of lakes, ponds, rivers, or streams. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi Barbara,

During the application you want to keep your yorkies off the wet surface but once it's completely dried then they're fine to be on the surface.

OK, I understand not to apply W&F to my deck within 100 ft of my country pond in order not to harm the fish in the pond. But after the application and after it dries can the deck be used on my dock, in all kinds of weather without harming the fish (and frogs)?
Posted @ Wednesday, May 28, 2014 1:18 PM by Larry
Hi Larry,

As long as the deck you applied Wet & Forget to has completely dried, you're fine to use it with your dock in any type of weather.
